NEET BiologyClass 11Calvin cycle (C₃ pathway)MediumStatement based
The biosynthetic phase of photosynthesis begins when a specific five-carbon acceptor molecule reacts with CO₂ in the chloroplast stroma. Evaluate the two statements below on this carbon-fixation step.
- Statement I: The primary CO₂ acceptor of the Calvin cycle is ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP), a five-carbon sugar, and the enzyme catalysing its carboxylation is RuBisCO.
- Statement II: The first stable product formed when CO₂ combines with RuBP is a three-carbon compound, 3-phosphoglyceric acid (3-PGA), which is why this pathway is also called the C₃ pathway.
