NEET 2025 Physics, question 1

Question 1 of the NEET 2025 paper (code 45) is a Physics question from Mechanical Properties of Fluids. Its idea, Shape of a Liquid Surface, was asked only this once in NEET 2017–2026. The NTA final answer key gives option 2.

Q1 · Physics

Consider a water tank shown in the figure. It has one wall at x=Lx = L and can be taken to be very wide in the zz direction. When filled with a liquid of surface tension SS and density ρ\rho, the liquid surface makes angle θ0\theta_0 (θ0<<1\theta_0 << 1) with the xx-axis at x=Lx = L. If y(x)y(x) is the height of the surface then the equation for y(x)y(x) is :

(take θ(x)=sin⁡θ(x)=tan⁡θ(x)=dydx\theta(x) = \sin\theta(x) = \tan\theta(x) = \frac{dy}{dx}, g is the acceleration due to gravity)

The figure, described in words

Graph of liquid surface y(x) in tank: curve rising towards the wall at x = L, meeting it at angle theta_0 with the horizontal.
