Rectangular circuit with a 40 V cell (+ on the left, - on the right) in the bottom wire and current arrow I pointing up on the left wire. Along the upper main wire, from left to right, are a 4 ohm resistor, a 2 ohm resistor and a 4 ohm resistor. A further 4 ohm resistor is drawn on a bypass wire above, joining the point before the first 4 ohm resistor to the point between the 2 ohm and the right-hand 4 ohm resistors. Another 4 ohm resistor is drawn on a bypass wire below, joining the point between the first 4 ohm and the 2 ohm resistors to the right-hand end of the right-hand 4 ohm resistor.
