Sets
11 lessons 97 min 2 simulations
This chapter sets up the language the rest of mathematics is written in: what counts as a set, how to write one down, when two sets are equal or one sits inside another, and how new sets are made from old ones by union, intersection, difference and complement. Relations, functions, probability and every domain-and-range question in JEE are phrased in this notation.
What the exam asks
JEE Main asks short, exact questions here: true-or-false statements that hinge on ∈ versus ⊂ and on the empty set, Venn-diagram reasoning with union, intersection, difference and complement, De Morgan's laws, interval notation, and counting subsets. Marks slip away by treating {φ} or {0} as empty, by closing a bracket at ∞, by writing A − B when B − A was asked, and by forgetting that a complement changes when the universal set changes.
