Linear Inequalities
10 lessons 85 min 2 simulations
This chapter studies statements with <, >, ≤ and ≥ instead of =. It covers what a solution and a solution set are, the two rules for solving linear inequalities in one variable (including the sign reversal when multiplying or dividing by a negative number), fractions and brackets, number-line and interval pictures, double inequalities, systems, and word problems on budgets, marks, temperatures and mixtures.
What the exam asks
JEE Main questions use these steps inside larger problems: finding domains and ranges, solving systems of conditions and reading answers as intervals. Marks are lost on forgetting to reverse the sign when dividing by a negative number, on mixing up open and closed ends in interval notation, on dividing by an expression whose sign is unknown, and on ignoring that a count must be a whole number.
