JEE Main 5 April 2026, Shift 2, Chemistry Q69

Question 69 of 75 in this shift, Chemistry question 19 of 25, Section A.

Given below are two statements : Statement I : [figure: two ring (pyranose) structures, each with CH2_2-OH, ring O, H, OH and H substituents, differing in the configuration at the carbon next to the ring O (anomeric carbon)] are two anomers of D-(+)-glucose. Statement II : The open chain forms of D-glucose and D- fructose contain three similar chiral carbons at C3\mathrm{C_3}, C4\mathrm{C_4} and C5\mathrm{C_5}. In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

The figure, in words

Statement I shows two pyranose ring drawings joined by 'and'. Each has CH2-OH at the top, ring O at top right, and H/OH substituents around the ring. Left structure: H and H on top-left, H next to O on the right, OH, H, HO, H, OH, OH around the lower edge. Right structure: same ring but with OH next to the ring O at top right and H below it (anomeric carbon configuration differs).

  2. (2)Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  3. (3)Statement I is true but Statement II is false
