NEET apps vs coaching institutes: which do you actually need?
An app is not a smaller coaching centre, and a coaching centre is not a bigger app. They do different jobs.
The short answer
Coaching institutes are built around teaching: faculty, a timetable, classrooms or live classes and a test series. NEET apps range from full online coaching (Physics Wallah and ALLEN both run apps with live and recorded classes) to focused practice and revision tools such as NTA's free National Test Abhyas mocks or spaced-repetition apps. If you need to be taught the syllabus, choose coaching or an app that includes lectures; if you have been taught and need practice, testing and revision, a focused app may be all you need.

Where a coaching institute is the better choice
- You have not yet been taught large parts of the Class 11 and 12 syllabus.
- You want a teacher who can see where you are stuck and explain it in person.
- You work better with a fixed daily timetable and classmates around you.
- You want a single provider to handle teaching, tests and doubt support together.
Where a NEET app is the better choice
- You have been taught the syllabus and your gap is practice, testing and revision.
- You live far from a good centre, or cannot give up hours to travel.
- You want to practise in short sessions around school, college or a job.
- You want free or low-cost options, such as NTA's own mock tests.
- You are already in coaching and want a separate tool for revision between tests.

Frequently asked questions
Can a NEET app replace coaching?
It depends on the app and on you. Apps run by coaching providers, such as Physics Wallah and ALLEN, include live and recorded classes and can stand in for classroom teaching. Practice and revision apps do not teach the syllabus, so they suit students who have already been taught it.
Are free NEET apps any good?
Some free options come from official sources. NTA's own National Test Abhyas app offers free computer-based mock tests for NEET, and desktop Anki is free and open source. Judge an app by what it helps you do, not by its price.
Should I use an app if I already go to coaching?
Many students do, mainly for extra practice and revision between institute tests. Keep it focused: one app for practice or revision is usually more useful than several that overlap with your coaching material.
