Lumi vs ChatGPT for NEET UG: a general AI assistant and a NEET app
Many NEET students already ask ChatGPT their doubts. Here is what it offers for studying, from OpenAI's own pages, next to what Lumi offers.
The short answer
ChatGPT offers a general-purpose AI assistant for any subject, with a study mode that asks guiding questions, explains step by step and checks your understanding, and it works on notes or a photo of a problem you upload. Lumi offers NEET UG questions with FSRS revision scheduling, a 2PL Item Response Theory ability estimate and simpleKT knowledge tracing over about 2,700 concept atoms. If you want an explainer for any doubt in any subject, ChatGPT is built for that; if you want NEET practice that decides what you revise next, Lumi is built for that.

Check what any AI tells you
OpenAI's own help page says study mode can make mistakes, and asks you to double-check important information, naming exams among the cases. That applies to every AI explainer, including the AI mentor in Lumi's app. For NEET, the NCERT textbook is the reference to check a fact against.
The other difference is memory of your preparation. ChatGPT can use saved memories or past chats if you turn memory on, but OpenAI does not describe a scheduler that tracks which NEET concepts you are forgetting. That tracking is the part Lumi is built around.
Where ChatGPT is the better choice
- You want one assistant for every subject and every kind of question, not only NEET.
- You want to photograph a problem from your own book or worksheet and be walked through it.
- You want an explanation rephrased, simplified or given as an analogy until it makes sense.
- You want to start free: OpenAI lists a Free plan, and study mode is available across plans.
- It has a far larger user base and far more App Store ratings than Lumi.
Where Lumi fits
- You want NEET questions supplied for you, scoped to Physics, Chemistry and Biology for NEET UG.
- You want revision scheduled by FSRS from your own answers, rather than planned by hand in a chat.
- You want an ability estimate per subject from Item Response Theory, not only feedback on single answers.
- You want to read free NCERT notes and practise chapter-wise questions on lumineet.com before installing anything.
What does it cost?
- ChatGPT, as listed on chatgpt.com/pricing on 2 Oct 2026: a Free plan (its list includes limited messages with uploads) and paid Go, Plus and Pro plans. We could not confirm the rupee prices shown in India, so we do not quote them; check the page from India.
- Lumi: see the app for current plans.
Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT good for NEET preparation?
It is useful for explanations and doubts. OpenAI describes a study mode that asks guiding questions, explains step by step and quizzes you, and it can work on a photo of a problem. OpenAI also says study mode can make mistakes, so check facts against NCERT. It does not describe NEET question banks or revision scheduling.
Does ChatGPT have NEET questions?
The OpenAI pages we checked do not describe a NEET question bank. ChatGPT can write practice questions when you ask, from a topic or from notes you upload. Lumi supplies NEET questions mapped to concept atoms, and lumineet.com has a free chapter-wise question bank.
Can ChatGPT schedule my NEET revision?
OpenAI does not describe a spaced repetition scheduler in ChatGPT. You can ask it to draft a plan, but it does not state that it tracks what you are forgetting. Lumi schedules revision with FSRS at a desired retention of 0.9.
Can I use ChatGPT and Lumi together?
Yes. A common split is ChatGPT for open-ended doubts in any subject, and Lumi for NEET practice, mock exams and scheduled revision, since Lumi's schedule comes from the questions you answer.
Is ChatGPT free?
OpenAI lists a Free plan, and its help page says study mode is available across ChatGPT plans on web, iOS and Android. Paid Go, Plus and Pro plans add more usage. Lumi's current plans are shown in the app.
